I’m headed to Hawaii this week to work on several fantastic upcoming projects, including a magazine for Hawaii Energy Connection, next year’s schedule for Meadow Gold & Me and the 2013 Hawaii Buyer’s Guide.
So lately, I’ve been laser-focused on tasks at hand.
In a deadline-driven profession, it’s easy to get so wrapped up in the stress of meeting deadlines that we forget why we do this magazine thing in the first place.
I do it because I love the entire process. Plus, the gratification that comes with seeing the finished product on the newsstand or online for the first time is really hard to beat.
That’s the feeling I got when I uploaded the most recent issue of Meadow Gold & Me to my website. The issue required an amazing team effort by a great photographer, a talented designer an accomplished food stylist and a terrific writer. The family on the cover went to great lengths to fly from their home island of Kauai to Oahu to be a part of things. The hard work yielded wonderful results. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
If you ever find yourself feeling like a deadline torpedo, stop for a moment and smell the roses. You’re guaranteed to pick up some much needed fuel for the finish.
